Artificial Disc Replacement (ADR) Surgery, also known as total disc replacement or disc arthroplasty.
It involves removing a damaged or degenerated spinal disc and replacing it with an artificial disc implant.
ADR surgery is typically performed under general anesthesia and takes about 1-2 hours. The surgeon makes an incision in the back, usually over the affected disc. The damaged disc is then removed and the artificial disc is inserted in its place.
Various types of implants are used, typically made of biocompatible
materials such as metal alloys, polymers, or a combination of both.
Common designs include ball-and-socket, sliding core, and elastomeric
disc implants.
